She pushed the door to the bar open and stepped into the dimly lit space. He said he'd be here, having drinks with friends. She hoped he actually would be here. She hadn't stopped thinking about him since the other day. She didn't know what it meant. Maybe it meant nothing at all. But she'd never know if she didn't find out.
She stepped further into the space, looking at each face as she moved, scanning the room. There was a part of her that worried she wouldn't remember what he looked like or that what she did remember was all in her imagination. But when she turned around, he was there, already crossing towards her. He had apparently seen her first. The smile on his face was of Christmas morning.
"I never expected to see you again," he said when he got close.
She blushed, "Well...neither did I."
Holding out a hand, he said, "It's loud in here, can we..." and canted his head towards the back garden. She nodded.
"What made you change your mind?" he asked.
"I don't know," she answered. It was an honest answer that only the ivy could hear. She took a fist-full of his jacket and tugged him closer, dipping her head to watch her hand. "Maybe it was the realization that I hadn't stopped thinking about what might've given up."
He tipped her head up with a finger under her chin, forcing her to meet his eyes. "What about your husband?"
She didn't back down. "I don't know. I don't know anything anymore . All I know is I don't want him here."
"You're sure?"
A slow smile spread across her lips as she leaned in a little closer. "Are you going to kiss me or not?"
